End to a Successful US Educational Group Tour

USEG Middle East tour Fall 2009 was a great success.  Beirut, Amman, Aqaba, Bahrain, Dammam, Doha, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Dubai were all well attended.  On the way from Amman to Aqaba we stopped in Petra, Jordan.  I had never been there and it was a great stop.  I was amazed by the city carved into a mountain.   The fair in Dammam had over 3000 students come.  One of USEG’s largest fairs ever.  We had US Ambassadors in 6 of the countries open the fairs and in Manama the Minister of Higher Education opened the fair with US Ambassador Ereli.  It seemed that all university reps were very happy and pleased with the tour.

OACAC Summer Conference 2009

Many of us are getting ready for the OACAC (Overseas Association for College Admission Counseling) Summer Conference, and while I – unfortunately – will not be there myself, my colleague, Wassan will be. I hope you have a chance to meet her and hear about her own college admission experience from an international student’s perspective as well as a 9-year marketing veteran.

I hope to see you at NACAC and WIEC later this year,

Joseph

Google Streets Coming to Your Campus?

The University of Pennsylvania is teaming up with Google to include the campus in the Google Street View feature.

A camera topped tricycle contraption was seen on the UPenn campus (see the photo here) snapping photos for the Google Street View service. The use of the tricycle instead of the usual Google car allows for street-level views of pedestrian only areas. Perfect for a college campus!

This is an interesting development for college campuses – allowing students to explore dorms, campus buildings, even bike trails virtually. Virtual campus tours have been used with varying success over the years, but few have reached out to international students specifically.

While it may be a while for some smaller or more rural campuses to find themselves on the Google map service, a virtual tour aimed at international students is an excellent item to add to your website. Just remember that many international students may not have access to very high or fast bandwidth, using shorter videos allow for students to still have a chance to view the video and see a virtual tour of your campus.
